Norfolk Healthy Produce: Bringing Innovation to Market
Norfolk Healthy Produce is a US-based speciality seed company, founded in Dec 2021 and headquartered in Davis CA. Our flagship product is The Purple Tomato™ a bioengineered tomato whose purple color reflects increased antioxidant content, specifically anthocyanins—the same class of anti-inflammatory antioxidants found in blueberries.
The Purple Tomato completed its US regulatory path with the USDA in September 2022 and the FDA in June 2023, and most recently has gotten approval to sell in Canada and is under review in Australia.
NHP now has 3 varieties of home gardener seed and 2 varieties of commercial seed, with an active breeding pipeline. Norfolk Healthy Produce sells Purple Tomato seeds through their website to home gardeners, partners with Raker Roberta’s to sell seedlings in retail garden shops, and partners with Red Sun Farms to sell Empress Purple Tomatoes in retail grocery stores.
CEO Nathan Pumplin, an entrepreneur with biotechnology commercialization and research backgrounds, leads Norfolk Healthy Produce.
